Seafood City Supermarket Waipahu in partnership with Philippine Airlines, held the “Himig ng Pasko” event last December 13, 2015 at Seafood City Waipahu, Hawaii. The atmosphere was ecstatic and the air was thick with love – love for the Christmas season. Hundreds of Seafood City SUKI cardholders and customers alike stepped away from their usual shopping routine and took part in the event. The event is also co-celebrated by the launching of the Himig ng Pasko album that featured songs by Leilanie Pierson, Yssa Marie West, and Stephen John Cu. The event had 3 contests namely – Cooking Contest, Dance Contest, and Christmas Carol Contest.
Robert James Lafradez, won the first prize in the cooking contest. He considers himself a local of Hawaii but he loves to cook Filipino food. He said that his mother inspired him to cook Filipino dishes. He prepared the Filipino favorite pork lumpia (pork eggroll) with a twist that gave it a smoky, unique flavor. The second prize winner, Beatriz Lanuza, prepared the traditional Kare-Kare. The third prize winner, Marlyn Bantoy, prepared the popular Filipino dish – the Mechado.
The all-women group Valero’s Angels won the first prize in the Dance contest. Their love for dancing, confidence radiated in their dance. The second prize winner is a group called Michael. They patterned their dance and music from Michael Jackson. Hence, the group name. The winner of the third prize is an all girls group called AKDC Group wooing the crowd with their Christmas costumes.
Christmas Carol Contest:
The first prize winner of the Christmas Carol contest is a group called the Filipino United Christian Church. They were a group of talented individuals that showcased their traditional ethnic language. They sang the song O Holy Night in Salidumay. How they blended their voices and their group choreography won them the first prize. The second prize winner is also from the World International Ministry choir. They said that they usually go house to house to serenade the people from their community. Last but not least, the third prize winner is an all girls group called the Little Darlings.
In line with this event, Philippine Airlines gave 2 round trip tickets to the Philippines to 2 lucky Seafood City Suki Cardholders from the audience, namely Angela Tuazon and Endgrace Mendiola.
Seafood City Waipahu also gave out 2 brand new Iphone 6 to 2 Suki Cardholders from the audience – they are Rey Dagdagan and Lorena Reyes.
The Himig ng Pasko event truly captured the joy of the Christmas season. It was truly a day to remember.
